A Visit in Rumbak - Ladakh

Roadless Rumbak (4050m) is a magical village with some nice homestays. We spent two nights in the house of a lovely family, eating momos and listening to the monk muttering prayers for 13 days to bless the family's new building!

Khardung La, The World's Highest motorable Pass - Ladakh

Zigzagging up a stark bare-rock mountain from Leh, it takes around one and a half hours to reach 5602m Khardung La. It's cool and after some time you feel the altitude and get dizzy. The Indian tourists love the snow!

Visiting the Camels in Hunder - Ladakh

Lost in greenery and closely backed by soaring valley cliffs, Hunder is popular for its desert like sand dunes and for camel rides. There is an army camp nearby, so we watched some airplanes flying over us!

A Visit in Turtuk - Ladakh

It's easy to run out of superlatives as you drive along the turbulent Shyok Valley towards Turtuk, which is only 12km from the Pakistan border. Parts of the road are very bad but it's worth it! Turtuk is a peaceful village and summer sees local women busy carting huge bundles of barley on their backs. Children in school uniforms pick apricots from one of the hundreds of trees. As we did too!
